VDO Technical Support says:

The 300F gauge has the following specifications:

120F = 322 ohms
180  = 105
210  = 64
250  = 35
300  = 18


Subaru says their TS198 temperature sender works like this:

100F = 460 ohms
220  = 360


This doesn't make sense....mine works almost perfectly.
